چکیده

We investigate some aspects and consequences of the extrema bounds for the soft Pomeron intercept, recently determined by means of global fits to pp and p̄p total cross section data at both accelerator and cosmic-ray energy regions (scattering data). We also examine the effects of the secondary Reggeons by introducing fitted trajectories from Chew-Frautschi plots (spectroscopy data) and determining new constrained bounds for the Pomeron intercept. In both cases we extend the analysis to baryon−p, meson−p, baryon−n, meson−n, gamma−p and gamma−gamma scattering, presenting tests on factorization and quark counting rules. We show that in all the cases investigated, the bounds lead to good descriptions of the bulk of experimental data on the total cross sections, but with different extrapolations to higher energies. Our main conclusion is that the experimental information presently available on the above quantities is not sensitive to an uncertainty of 2% in the value of the soft Pomeron intercept. At 14 TeV (CERN LHC) the extrema and constrained bounds allow to infer σtot = 114 ± 25 mb and 105 ± 10 mb, respectively.

Exclusive photoproduction of all vector mesons by real and virtual photons is considered in the Soft Dipole Pomeron model. It is emphasized that being the Pomeron in this model a double Regge pole with intercept equal to one, we are led to rising cross-sections but the unitarity bounds are not violated. It is shown that all available data for ρ, ω, ϕ, J/ψ and Υ in the region of energies 1.7 ≤ W...

Is there window for " supersoft " Pomeron in J/ψ photoproduction at low energy? Abstract The low energy J/ψ photoproduction cross-section has been studied upon the basis of the Pomeron model. To incorporate the discrepancy between experimental data and predictions by conventional models, i.e. the sum of the soft Pomeron with intercept 1.08 and the hard Pomeron with intercept 1.418, a Regge traj...

Direct extraction of hadronic form factors from elastic-scattering data

Non-forward elastic hadron-scattering data are collected and analysed within the Regge approach. Through an analysis of the data in small bins in t, we have directly extracted the pomeron trajectory and the hadronic form factors (or reggeon couplings). We found higher values than usually used for the intercept and for the slope of the soft pomeron trajectory. The presence of zeros in t for the ...

total γ ∗ γ ∗ cross - section and its confrontation with the LEP data on doubly tagged e + e − events

Theoretical description of the total γ * γ * cross-section and its confrontation with the LEP data on doubly tagged e + e − events Abstract We perform a detailed analysis of the total inelastic cross-section for γ * γ * collisions. Different contributions coming from the quark box diagram, reggeons, the soft and hard pomeron are included. The QCD pomeron contribution contains a dominant part of...
